A mi simp yesterday to some waggons on the usual daily goods train ironi Christchurch, which arrives at Greymouth at 3.30 p.m., caused a delay to several other trains. At the intersection of the Otira and Reef ton lines at Stillwater, the four waggons:—Two K’s, one L, and one U .B.—lelt the rails at about 3 p.m., when the train was departing for Greymouth. These four waggons were immediately behind the engine, which itself did not leave the lino, so that- the cause of the his. hap is a mystery. As it was expected that the express would be delayed through the derailment, a special train was dispatched from Greymouth. at 4.15 p.m., the appointed hour for the arrival of the express there. The special, was, however, not needed, ns despite the fact that the derailed U.B. was loaded with timber, excellent work by the railway-men and the Stillwater Railway Staff, enabled all the derailed waggons to be speedily removed fi on the path traversed by the express, which had, therefore, after aiding in the clearing of the line made its waypast Stillwater. The express passed the special at Brunner, and proceeded on to Greymouth, whole it arrived only an hour and five minutes behind the usual time.
