CANTERBURY PROGRESS LEAGUE.
WESTLAND BRANCH. TUESDAY, APRIL 15. The Committee of the above met at 7.J0 p.m. Present :—Dr Teiehelmann (President), CL A. Pcrrv (Mayor). W. 1). Mackny, R. Wild, G. Pilkington, T. W. Bruce, D. J. Evans, J. W. Morris, J. J. Mclntosh and Hon H. L. Michel, M.L.C. -The minutes of tho previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Westland Chamber of Commerce, suggesting associated management in regard to the work of the League and the Chamber.—-Received. The President invited discussion. Personally he did not think they could alter the name of the League without consulting the parent body in Canter.bury.
Mr Perry on behalf of the Chamber explained the proposal mainly on lines which have been given publicity through the press already. The speaker thought the proposal should he given a trial. At the outset there was some idea of merging, but there was a good deal to do in the matter of railway agitation, and the matter was not pressed. Mr Evans favored the proposal of the proposed amalgamation. The Chairman supported also. Mr Wild moved that tho bodies combine under the title of the Westland Chamber of- Commerce and tho Westland Committee of the Canterbury Progress League. lie suggested the Canterbury League be asked to ap-
prove. Mr Mclntosh seconded, and referred to the economy in time which the joint organisation would result in. Mr Pilkington saw the difficulties which had arisen. The success of the League work was due to the association with Canterbury. The idea of the proposal should he submitted first to the parent body, and if approved the motion could go through. Mr Bruce joined in supporting ill* proposal, which was one for greater utility. Hon Michel favored the League continuing its good work. The parent body was a real live body. The motion was carried. From Orchestra Committee, asking for a settlement of their account. —Received. From Leigh Hunt, forwarding extract from “Dominion” newspaper giving particulars of the-exhibition at the Farmers’ Institute, Wellington.— Received’. From C. E. Williams, Christchurch, asking copies of Mr Collins’ pamphlet on South. Westland trip.—Received. GENERAL. The Chairman suggested that a.i additional £5 be- remitted to the payout body for advertising maps relating to the Franz Josef.—Agreed to. It was- decided to object !o an;, alteration in an earlier hour of depar. tit re for the morning train ’to G,rymouth. It was resolved to protest to the District Traffic Manager. It was decided to hold tile auual meeting of the League on M unlay, May Ifitb. The Chairman stated he had met the Hon Nosworthy on arrival alid discussed tourist matters with the Minister. The meeting concluded at 8.45 p.m.
