MOTOR TRAFFIC- CONTROL. MAGISTRATE'S t'OMAfKXT. CHRfSTCHURCH. April 11 • The institution of a sreeial police force for traffic control was advocated by Mr Wyvern Wilson, the Magistrate, ill a ease "here a youth of eighteen admitted driving a car without a certificate of ability. The evidence showed defendant had knocked a man down. The Alagistrate said the granting of a certificate was a I area as there "as no standard of ability, and tlie laid that the defendant had obtained a certificate since the accident was no guarantee that he was fit to drive. Ibe regulation of motor traffic should be under the control of expert- motor police. WOOI.STOX TANNERIES FIRE. CHRISTCHURCH. April 11. The estimated loss by the \\ oolston Tanneries fire is £45,000 which is about ten thousand above the loss ol the January (ire.
