MELBOURNE, April 10 A large deputation, headed by members of the Labour Party, waited on the Premier and presented a. petition, said to he signed by over one hundred thousand, in favour of the commutation of Angus Murray’s sentence. The Premier promised Cabinet consideration. Subsequently Cabinet could find no reason for a variation of the sentence and Murray is to he hanged on Monday. HIDES .MARKET. LOSS OF WYE ALLA IT. MELBOURNE, April 10. All the missing members of the steamer Wyrallah’s crew were engine room men. A hole a foot square, was made in the Dilkera’s how, just above the wafer line. Mr Bruce (Federal Premier) speaking at a dinner, stressed the necessity of "combination by the Dominions and Groat Britain for Empire defence. He said that to substitute for strength a reliance upon the League of Nations would he a great dis-service to the cause of peace, and would he laying the foundation of another world campaign. Air Bruce concluded again hv referring to the abandonment of Singapore, and said the Government was so convinced of the necessity and that the base was in tho interest of the world’s peace, that it did not accept the decision of the British Government as linal.
