The attention of school teachers throughout the district is directed to an advertisement in this issue relative to the proposed schools excursion to Christchurch in connection with the cruiser visit to Lyttelton in early May.
A special general meeting of the members of the Westland Chamber of Commerce is convened for 7.30 o'clock next Monday evening to consider a proposal to amalgamate with the Westland Progress League. A full attendance of all interested is desired.
Last month the Blaekwater Mines, Ltd., crushed 3275 tons of stone, yielding 1465 ozs of gold, valued (at the
sale of £4 15s per line ounce) at £16,959. Working expenses £4225, working profit £234, development cost £592, and capital cost £289. The net profit was £1853 for the month.
There will be a big community sing at the Town Hall to-night at 8 o’clock, the collection being in aid of the Beautifying Society. These gatherings are always very hearty and much enjoyed. Mr Lawn has organised a special orchestra for the evening’s entertainment. Mr Aldridge who was to he leader was called away yesterday, and at the last moment his place has been taken very kindly by Mrs Staveley.
