Clyne,s settled doubts regarding the Government’s way out of an impasse in. which it found itself as regards the. Evictions Bill. He stated the Government proposed to submit amendments to Clause I, in Committee, providing that before a Court makes an. order for possession in tho case of no payment of rent, it shall first bo satisfied that the tenant bad reasonable, opportunity of obtaining relief ironi the. local poor law authorities. He advised that such an amendment was within tins scope of the present Bill and did not. require any money resolution, therefore the Government proposed to take tho Bill as its first, business on Monday.

After some Liberal and Conservative criticism, the Labourite, Mr Kirkwood, excited Opposition laughter and cheers by a heated speech in which he described tbe Government as a jelly-fish, calling themselves Socialists, lie said the time bad come for the Government to prove their use! illness.
