As he passed Kardiki point there was a .sudden violent vibration of the engine. He planed down and was lucky to have the lake to land upon as the sea was extremely rough. After landing he walkdo ten miles to the nearest village and secured supplies. All the crew slept in the machine that night. An examination showed that the reduction gear had been completely stripped, necessitating a new one from Ragland.
