Thf, football season will be at hand soon, and it is evident that the season is- going to lie a busy one. It will lie for the authorities to see that the playing field here is in good order, as under proper conditions, and with the interest and enthusiasm -shown in the game, it should he possible to have some of the important Rugby fixtures played on Cass Square this season. Cass Square should be an ideal field of play, and with the late improvements carried out in sub-draining it should not be a difficult matter to so maintain the ground so that a. first-class playing field will be avai.able all the year round. The popular outdoor game should be encouraged by the authorities to the fullest advantage. It has so many votaries, and the game is such a useful training for the young men, that it is in the interests of the younger generation to see the popular sport catered for to tlie advancement of the game. The better the ground the better tlie play in every respect, and flie oulooking public who patronise the Square for the weekly bouts will be tlie better entertained. Football has come to be the healthy recreation game of the Coast, and the Hokitika players should !>o given the opportunity of emulating at the game by having at their disposal ft ground second to none for both practice and play.
