The "Municipal Band visited the Mental Hospital on Sunday afternoon and rendered a musical programme. During the afternoon the bandsmen wore entertained at afternoon tea by the Staff. For some months past Mr M. E. Bichards, Bandmaster of the local band has been tutoring a number of boys for the hand and at last evening’s practice five of liis class were present and took part in the practice. The five drafted in are cornet, players and in a few weeks Mr Bichards expects i -- have some others ready, most of whom are baritone or tenor players,. Ihe lads present last evening made a splendid slowing for a first attempt in the hand circle and will assist considerably in the cornet section. Mr Keys, a clarionet player of some repute, also attended the practice and in future will he a playing member in the solo section. At the conclusion of the practice letters from the Irish National concert committee and l-he Beautifying Society requesting the services of the Band, in both cases the requests were acceded to. It was also decided to make arrangements for holding a series of sacred concerts during the winter months.
