James Chute, 30, single, was found hanging in a cowshed at his mother’s residence at Lumsden this morning.

At a meeting of the Canterbury Cricket Asociation an account was received from the Umpires Assn, for six guineas for refereeing the N.S.AV. v. Canterbury match: also a request that the Association should forward umpires’ fees through the Umpire’s Association. The hearing of the dispute between Australasian Institute of Alarine Engineers and the Union Steamship Coy. concluded before the Conciliation Commission to-day, an agreement being reached regarding ships keeping and vessels out of commission, in terms of the Company’s proposals. It was agreed in lion of Sundays and holidays that the chief engineer be paid £4 per month, second £3 per month, and below second £2 per month. The matters of wages were referred to the Arbitration Court. RELEASED FROAI GAOL. AUCKLAND Alareli 18. Roland Blair, who was sentenced on Friday to seven days’ imprisonment for making small bets at tote odds, was released from gaol this morning and set free on receipt of instructions from the Governor-General. Nothing has been heard as to the result of the request for Blair’s reinstatement to his position in the telegraph office.
