The competitors lor tlie National Rifle Association meeting were early astir and promptly at eight o'clock ilie men paraded and were briefly addressed l>y Colonel Hughes, the chief executive officer, who welcomed the new and old belt seekers, lie conveyed a message of welcome from the President ol the Assn., Colonel Collins, whose health prevented Ins atteudanee. A resolution wishing the President a speedy restoration to health was (-allied bv acclamation. The men then moved off to the tiring mounds and in the bright clear light, with practically dead calm, the shooting began with service matches, four ol which a expected to be completed to-day. The first match 10 shots rapid, 300 yards (possible 50) resulted: £3, (apt. Simmomls (Wanganui) 38; £2, F. W. Ching (Kairori) 38. The following take £l. F. J. Sober (Wanganui) 27. C. AI. Afoss (Dunedin) 37. P. Palmer (Patea). S. K. Hester (Wellington), I). .1. Anderson (Kaituna) each 30. Scores down to 30 took prize money.
Match No 2. ten shots, snapshooting, 100yds, possible 50—Simmons (Wanganui) 14; R. IT. Nicdioll (Petnne) 42; D. Roots (Paten) 41; G. Hood (Onaki) 40. No 3 match, tile competition, five shots, 200 yards was won hv V. .Tones (Kimbolton) with a score of 25 followed i,y a string of twenties. Siinmonds apparently wills the Service Championship; .Soler of Wanganui is runner up.
