Mr Hoover informed .Senator Caller that foreign monopolies or trust- combinations potentially or actually control the prices and distribution of at least eleven important commodities ol winch the United States is annually importing five hundred million dollars worth, paying nnieh greater prices than are justifiable. Those are sisal, potash. quinine, tin, mercury, coffee, qucbriachs, nilrates, iodine, crude rubber and guttapercha. The four latter commodities are under .British control. .Mr Hoovei advocated legislation permitting American manufacturers to combine for the purpose of .securing better prices and conditions.
