At the inquest on Alary Hawkins, tho 15-yr. old girl found dead with a gas tube ill her mouth. AVilliam Hawkins. the- girl’s father, evidenced that he had scolded her in the ns the house was untidy. .She said: “Aon will be sorry you scolded me.” Witness thought tlie girl meant she would run away and lie replied: 1 llioie aie places where I can put you till you are twenty-one.” Shortly after mid-day he found the girl on the kitchen floor with a rubber gas tube in-her mouth, and the gas turned full on. The girl and he had always la'cu on good terms. He had never struck her. Atrs Hawkins said the father and deceased had got on well together, though he would grumble at her to get tbe work done quicker. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 21

A proposal to render professors in office ineligible as representatives on tlie Senate of the various Courts of Convocation was discussed by the University Senate. Tbe Business Committee reported that there was suiel\ strh.ug grounds against interloping when the graduates definitely decided that a professor was the fittest person to represent them. The report of the Business Committee was adopted b> 17 votes to 5.
