INTERNATIONAL DJ SARA! AMENT CONFERENCE. WASHINGTON, Feb. IS Mr Hughes, writing to Representative Fish, concerning a resolution the letter introduced to the Congress early in January in favour of an international disarmament conference, declared that an international conlerenee on disarmament wherein the United States would participate is not feasible at the present time. The letter stated there are difiicuties in reaching agreements respecting light cruisers, submarines, poison gas, and aircraft. These were all emphasised at the Washington Conference. Military establishments, moreover, are purely a European problem. He concluded that while a reduction of land armaments is not yet possible, he hopes the European Powers will Ixi able to achieve this in the not distant future.
WOODEN -SHIP CASE. . WASHINGTON, February 18. The United States Court has denied a petition for a writ of certicari in tbe Cross appeal wooden ship ease between tho Australian Government and the Da'terson MacDonald Shipbuilding Company, which constructed wooden ships for Australia in war time. This decision means the bringing to a head of the litigation conducted by the trusts; in the bankruptcy of the PattersonMacDonahl Shipbuilding Company, and thi refusing to grant a, re-heaVing, whereby the issue involving the Arbitration Board’s earlier a card of 3.3 Thousand dollars to the company, won hi b: combined with the Australian Commonwealth’s writ of Certicari and the attendant counter claims.
