A Leap Year Ball is advertised to be held in the Kaniori Public Hall on Friday, 20th. February. The usual fortnightly (quarterly) meeting of the Druid’s Lodge, Westlaud, No 89, will he held in the Lodge Room, Town Hall, Hokitika, to-mor-lov. (Thursday) evening nt 7.30 o’clock. Visiting brethren cordially invited.—Advt. The dismantling of the Exhibition buildings is proceeding apace. One complete section of the building, embracing the fernery and Westland Court has been sold intact for removal. A quantity of the iron lias been sold and a good deal of the timber bespoken. The beds and bedding have been soiling Well also, the sale prices being considered very reasonable. The week atler next will probably see ’fancied and Camp streets restored to normal conditions for traffic.
The municipal swimming baths were well patronised again last night. There was a large attendance of onlookers, while the number of young folk disporting in me bath was large also. All had an enjoyable time. The arrival of the comic man was the event of the evening. and when he el imped to the high spring board and “fell in”, the delight of the young folk was unrestrained, flic perseverance of those who attempted uuavailingly to walk the greasy poll a ire created much excitement, while the egg and spoon races caused further diversion. There were some good swimming contests by the seniors, while a beginners race across the bath was probably the event of the evening, the excitement and encouraging cries to the three contestants being pronounced. The baths are well lit for the purpose and in the pleasant balmy air ol but evening, proved a delightful resort. It was a happy thought- on the pert of the management to hold these special evening ‘•swims”.
The Secretary of Wataroa Dairy Company called a public ami suppliers’ meeting to consider and recommend to the directors the advisability of going over, next season, from butter and cheese,
butter only. There was a large and ropresenative gathering ot Hist riot- residents, including those from AAailio and Mi Hercules. Alter having tho unifier thoroughly discussed and figures placed before tlie public by the Comprnv’s Socretaiy. it was unanimously carried, that the factory manufacture butter only next season, and a canvass be made throughout the district- to endeavour to bring in settlors that arc not supplying and place the whole position on a more prosperous looting, ’the Manager stated that the Factory would have to umlergM some small alterations am! another vat would lie required; also the enlarging of tho cooling room. These works no doubt will ho undertaken and will lead up to bringing several absent land holders to the iront either by letting their farms for sharcnulKing, or to start out and milk themselves.
