To those whose lawns are alleetod with gras.- grub the experience of a A'elvertoii resident. as related to a “Marlborough Express" reporter on Tuesdav morning, may prove interesting and helpful. For years the lawn in que-tion was treated with chemicals a different treatment being applied pat-h year in an effort to eradicate the gras- grub, which was doing terrible damage. No relief was obtained, however. and the lawn year after year had to lie resown in parts where the grub bad eaten away tlie roots and the turf could be lifted up like a carpet. I This season the lawn lias hung out j through the dry spell exceptionally wvll, but oik* day recently the hose was turned oil one or two patches where the grass was dying. Imagine the astonishment of the owner when a short time after he discovered that hundreds of grubs had come to the surface. These grubs were collected and destroyed, but the task proved rather large. Next day the hose was lioing kept going all over the lawn, and hy leaving the place in peace, numerous birds commenced to collect and dealt effectively with the grub. AA hy the grubs came to the surface under the influence of the water it is diffi- ■ cult to say. but it was probably oil ae- - count of the dry season rendering the • soil parched and making the gurbs anxious for a “spot,.”
