Late last nigliL the ferry boat Cobar, when returning from the other side of the harbour, ran into the launch Mavis, near Oriental Bay, containing thirteen persons, including four stokers front H.M.S. Chatham. The shock threw a number in the water. Mrs Day and her daughter Mavis and eleven others were picked up, but Miss McArthur, aged 10. was apparently struck by the propel).ir and killed instantly. Her body was found shortly after.
