Ai.t.kgedi.v I)hy. lr spite of the prohibition regime, liquor admitted into Ashburton, a local no-lice lisp area, under permit last year totalled 30.350 gallons of beer, against 17,000 three years ago. Wines and spirits showed a decrease. Last December the importations of beer totalled 7733 gallons, whisky 318 gallons, brandy 27 gallons, gin 5 gallons, rum 3 gallons, and wine 130 gallons. It is declared that much illicit liquor is traded, bottles of whisky known as “bombs”, having a marketable value of £1 each. —N.Z. Telegram in Sydney paper.
