A VISITOR’S PROTEST. (To the Editor). Sir.—As an old West Coaster and a recent visitor to Hokitika, after many years absence, I wish to enter my protest against the wanton destruction of the beautiful lntsh scenery along Mahinapua Creek, and the total destruction of the famous Mirror Crock. Such ruin is nothing short ot a criminal act. Never again shall we see the glorious rellections in Mirror Creek. Where are those beautiful trees that once surrounded it ? 1 have travelled in many lands lull never have seen anything to equal the trips up Mahinapua Creek—as it once was. Mirror Creek had no equal anywhere. Hokitika must soon take its place among tho prosperous inland towns. With the timber industry and Inrming flourishing as it now is, naturally visitors will lie drawn there. Then the people of Hokitika will wake up and wonder why they did not protect their wonderful possessions. Lake Mahinapua should have been one ol the principal show places. The Creek, as I knew it. was eight miles ol an enclosed avenue of the most beautilul hush scenery to he met with in any part of the world. But alas! it is gradually disappearing before the miller's ruthless axe. Wake up Hokitika and save what is left.

I mil etc.. J. WAIT!: Wellington, Jan. 28th.

Keep on using SIIARLAND’S V INEGAR. Brewed from pure cane sugar. First for flavour, strength and purity. In bulk and bottle.
