A POPULAR FACTORY.

THE “CENTRAL” SUCCESS.

The directors of the Westland Cool Storage and Dairy Company Limited, Hokitika, have issued an interim report to suppliers with the monthly cheques in payment for cream, which indicates that the support accorded the centralised factory lio.A been very satisfactory, giving promise of stabalised success. During the first month’s operations—December—nineteen of butter were manufactured. This is a very good return, and this month’s “make” promises tow bo equ; illv satisfactory. “AA’estland” brand of butter is now on sale very generally and there is a popular demand for the article. The exportable surplus was graded all first qua^R - . The average points obtained from the Government grade was 92. equal to the standard of superfine butter. As the cream comes from Tcrentakau in "■ -v the north to Haribari in the - south, the achievement is very good.

The running of the Factory is demonstrating all the advantages which were urged in favor of tlie central idea by the Government experts and others’prior to the inception of the local institution. The local Factory is well built, and the promoters liavo built for the future, as the venture is sure to expand. The freezing chamber is now in operation, and this is a great convenience locally. The supply of ice from the Factory is appreciated already and there’is a ready sale for the commodity. So. too, is there in regard to local cream requirements. AYhen the freezer is finally finished theCompany will commence the bacon and frozen pork industry which will bo a useful adjunctive aid to the dairy farmer. It is the intention of the Company to ho butter-making all the year round, while supplies of butter will be stored ill the freezer for local consumption thus avoiding the necessity as heretofore of having to send out of the district, to the North Island and elsewhere, for butter plies over the winter months. Suppliers to the Factory seem to appreciate the attention received at the hands of Mr H. T. Parry, the Managing Director. Mr Jamieson of Koiterangi. the Chairman of the Company, in a very cordial circular sent to suppliers, appreciates Air Parrys good work. His-help and judgment in assisting to found the Company have been invaluable and altogether of great advantage to the district as a whole.
