A GREAT PROGRAMME. CHARLIE CHAPLIN A XL) ALICE LAKE. To-night ;it the I’riiuco.ss' Theatre .Mrs V. McLean will present the greatest programme ever .screened to a Hokitika audience. The first star picture is entitled “The Golden Gift” starring glorious Alice Lake, anti is from tin story by June Mathis who produced the World's greatest picture “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.” The world at her feet, such was Nita Gordon’s fortune at Polity, a fortune which shifted with an abruptness cruel enough to make Nita’s story a tense ami telling drama that, enacted by beautiful Alice Lake, holds the closest interest from start to finish. “l.c Golden Gilt” is a drama of divided devotion and a woman’s -fight to win hack her own and the world’s approval, it is the story of an opera singer who with a young child to support, finds lid-self thrown upon her own resources through the desertion of her husband. Later she finds that at the height of her success the man. she loves is the guardian of her child, and what the golden gift really is, is revealed in a most charming manner. Supporting Alice l/ikc aie Joseph Swieknrd, whose wonderful work in “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" will never be forgotten. John Bowers, Harriet Hammond, and a host of other artists who have all appeared as stars in their own right. One of the thrills in ‘‘The Golden Gift'’, one backward step over the cliff that soared far above a group of treacherous rocks, and the man who had caused the opera singer such trouble plunged out of her life, leaving Pci free to start a new career. What she did is artistically portrayed by Alice Lake ill Hi is fine -nctio. A N.Z. scenic, showing “Beautiful Nelson” will he shown. Also a further episode of the popular serial which cn delights the kiddies. Charlie Chaplin, the world's greatest comedian will conclude the programme with his rollicking side blister oomedv.
