It was grown l»v Air Charles Pope, and had no fewer than 03 tomatoes on one trfiss, or hunch; there were lour trusses oil the plant) and the, total number of tomatoes was 161. The plant was grown in the open, and not under glass. At the time Mr T’aynter saw it some of the tomatoes hail ripened and some had just sot. A truss on another jdatit. at Mr J*opc’« had 5w tomatoes on it. For a truss to have 20 tonmotes on it. is considered good; the average is about ten. At Christchurch on Saturday the wickets wore in splendid- order and at Ifngley Park some lively batting was witnessed. West- Christchurch put up the big total of 508 against Ilieear-te-i\ and the innings was remarkable from the fact not only that Blunt made the highest individual score of the season, but that lie put up a record for the number of runs scored in an over. Pis father being under xlie impression that he was to work at his trade as carpenter in Greyinouth. Work could bi found for him in Hokitika. The father supported Air Joyce's statement hi evidence. The Lov, he said, Mas a bit weak at times, hp.it a steady worker. Senior-Sergeant AfeCarthy said there was a previous conviction for theft against the youth, and he was now on probation. The Afagistrate said he would, in view of the father’s statement, give the lmv a further chance. He would he convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, and to report monthly to the police at Hokitika.
