A lieavilv laden lorry is reported to have broken a stringer of the Totara mad bridge, making it unsafe f«r heavy traffic till repairs are effected.

The Treasurer's report of the recent, meeting of the Westland Raring Club shows the total receipts to have been Co 181. The gates were a. record for tile Club, and other receipts were well sustained. As customary the Government taxation mounts up to a large sum. Tn all £1863 have been paid for State taxation, made up as follows:—Dividend tax £983; totalisator tax £.546; stakes tax £240; amusement tax £6B; ordinary tax £2O. The autumn meeting of the Club will be held on Faster Wednesday, and the stakes recommended for the meeting total £iso. The Club is taking steps immediately to have the principal buildings repainted and a number of minor improvements are to iie carried out. At a meeting of the Committee of the Club last evening, Mr W'. E. Williams presiding. the report in connection with the late races was adopted, and the services of all who assisted, appreciated.
