Tliero was another hamper attendance at the Exhibition on Saturday. The attendance during the day eonsituted a record—due of course to the visiting Itunanga picnic. ! lie picnic party was the largest over made from Itunanga—the train not being able to provide the accommodation required. .Ail school children were admitted free, yet despite this, the cash takings at the doors for the day-lime period, were a record. Among those attend-
ing iv:i; a large party of ‘‘Sunbeam” writers to the Grey ‘‘Argus ’ who were holding their auniial picnic under the direction of Air and Airs James O'Brien of Greyn'muth. In the afternoon the itunanga hand visited the Exhibition, and for a couple of hours played a special programnu, greatly to the delight ol the concourse of people present. All the afternoon the avenues and courts were crowded with people, the whole scene being a very animated one.
On Saturday afternoon and evening the Otphens Theatre was ccwded for the entertainment afforded by the juvenile duo from Christchurch. in the afternoon a large gathering of f! manga folk enjoyed little Joan Hughes and .Muriel Kershaw to the full. All Bonetti’s hand supplied incidental mnsii. There were many good turns by tin 1 youngsters, and the duet “The Keys of Heaven" found special favour. The various character items were all received with marked approbation, and the wlmle entertainment greatly enjoyed. At night the Ifftie Theatre was [lacked to the doors. 'I lit 1 piogramme proved very acceptable, “i upid ’ by Joan was a dainty item and Afuiiol was also pleasing with her numl/ers. The duets in character were all encored. Indeed every item by the juveniles was applauded to the echo. Misses Dale and Stapleton assisted with pleasing vocal solos, and Alosdaines Carver and AleC'askill with a finished pianoforte duet. Hite jazz, orchestra played an overture. It was announced that both Joan and Muriel would join the Cowan troupe to appear at the Orpheus Theatre to-mor-row night, and the three following nights, when new programmes would he"presented by the juvenile company under the charge of Miss Lucy Cowan who lias been so successful in training the kiddies for their competition perform;! n< es. Cooking demonstrations were resumed at the Stand of the Hokitika Gas Company this afternoon, and will lie continued to-night, as also, nightly all this week, excepting Saturday. There will he a cooking demonstration also on AVcdnesday afternoon. These demonstrations have proved quite a feature of the Exhibition proceedings, and it was a very happy thought to arrange for -this useful adjunct to the
nrominme. TO-NIGHT. To-ni'dit there will he a popular dance in the Orpheus Hall, commencing at 8.30 o'clock. Admission wi la- one shilling. Eirst-elass music will lie provided and special attention given to the floor. TO-MORROW MOOT. Aliss I.'iiev Cowan and her company „[• seven juveniles arrive 10-llight. and to-morrow ope,, a four nights season „t. the Orpheus Theatre. Particulars ~l the Company and the programmes to lx, rendered, are contained in an inset circulated with the delivered issue of to-day’s paper. The company will perform over 'I oesday. Wednesday. Thursday and Friday nights, ren-cbo-ine a different programme on each appearance. Joan Hughes Alunel Kershaw remain for this week, joining up with Aliss Cowan’s Company. WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. The Exhibition Flower Show will he held on Wednesday and Thursday in the Soldiers' Hall, so as to provide the accommodation necessary for the large number of entries received. FUTURE EVENTS. Next Saturday the Greymouth Wntcrsiders’ picnic takes place. It will he attended very largely from the northern town. The Greymouth Alnnieipal Bisnd accompanies the picnic, and will render a programme at the Exhibition during flic afternoon. The following Monday tho Greymouth and Blaketown Schools will hold their excursion.
All next week Miss Bessie MacDonald’s troupe of 10 performers will perform nightly at the Orpheus Theatre. There will he select dance recitals each evening, introducing ballets and spectacular scenes, all beautifully dressed. Tiie stage will lie enlarged for these performances, and in order to accommodate the audiences, two programmes will be given nightlv.
EXHIBITION BALL. The Exhibition Ball is to be the social event of the period. It will be held in the Soldiers' Hall. A large attendance is expected, in consequence tlie issue of tickets will be restricted in number, to ensure the comlort of patrons. The annexe will he used for dancing on this occasion, and the hand, which will lie composed of four members of the Hoyal orchestra, will be placed at the western end of the building adjacent to the annexe. In provide sitting out and supper room accommodation a large marquee will be erected in front ol the hall. Ihe snipper arrangements will he directed by the ladies who had charge of the pioneers’ luncheon which passed oil s " well. Owing to the large attendance anticipated, the ladies committee will arrange for supper to be secured in batches by preference rickets issued to patrons in order of their arrival at the ball. Double tickets are fixed at 10s fid, single tickets for ladies ss. and for gentlemen 7s fid. Ihe tickets aie procurable only at the Exhibition Office. The number printed is limited

For the present weelc a number of tickets are being held in reserve for '•country patrons, who may apple by letter to the General Secretary, forwarding the cash, when tl* tickets will he issued. No reserved tickets " ill he held after Monday. The arrangements for this special event will he on lines similar to those made foi the 1 conduct of the Prince of Wales Ball. I the success of which is still tnlkec ■ about. No doubt the Exhibition Ball ‘ will become equally memorable.
