THE EXHIBITION.
GENERAL PREPARATIONS. AA'ork at the Exhibition Buildings progresses most satisfactorily. A start has been made with the erection of tlie .stalls and stands. The exhibits have been arriving for some time, and the exhibitors are now reaching here. Next week will see the big display that is to bo taking shape. Season tickets are now on sale. The prices are 12s Gd for gentlemen, 7s fid for ladies and ‘2s Gd for children. The tickets admit daily for the -12 days and nights tin* Exhibition will be open, and as often as tin.* ticket holders wish daily. They are thus very good value, and a lonveniont arrangement for frequent- visits to the Exhibition.
The external appearance of the Exhibition is now very impressive. Fine flagpoles have been placed in position, and the ornamental front will be very striking. The artistic decoration of the front) is being attended to by Mr Menzies who may lie relied upon to do good work, and provide an interesting scenic scene. Tlie rush for accommodation is now setting in. A bureau has been opened under the secretarial management ol the Exhibition, and many applications are now being received. Every at,tention is being given to this branch of tlie Exhibition, which it is recognised. is of great imprtance as bearing on till* ultimate success of the Exhibition. The Council lias procured -100 extra bods and bedding lor the purpose of supplementing local accommodation. and the stock is now arriving, and is being distributed. Mr and Mrs .Jones, who will be conducting' the refreshment rooms, have named them very appropriately AA'estward Ho. Luncheon and dinner parties will lie entered lor, and a large and clfieieni staff will Ik* engaged. Tin* kitchen quarters are being equipped very conveniently. 1 lie charges for meals and refreshments will lie very moderate, and along with tin* proposed menu have been approved bv the Executive Council. Ihe caterers "'ill provide afternoon tea tor the official party on flic opening day in the Town Hall, and "ill cater also for tlie luncheon proposed on tlie following Monday in the same building.
A large number of official invitations are issued for tlie opening day. and it is expected there will be a very large gathering for tin* occasion. Tlie town should be very crowded. Many distinguished visitors, including three Ministers of the Crown, will ho here, and quite a large number ol leading citizens from Canterbury and heads (>l Government Departments, from AAellington. It is intended to declare n public half holiday, and to invite the citizens to decorate and holing their premise:-. Special trains will lie running, and excursion faros will he charged. The railroad traffic "dl he vorv heavy. . The radio plant him been installed and at a try-out the results given were declared to lie eminently satisfactory. 'Pile radio parlor will he upstairs in the Town Hall, where also there will be a number of exhibits and scenic views. The long distance entertainments will lie quite a novelty. Messrs Heonnn and Clifford will be jointly in charge of this Department.
