Tin-: imjn-ovemcnt of Mahinapua. (.'leek for boating was brought up again at the meeting of the Progress League ibis week. It is suggested to reopen bite creek fur boating parties, and it was decided to ask the Touri-l Depaitmont to help v.ith a pound for pound vote up to a small sum. It was a ve.v modest application indeed. Probably the members were in fear oml trembling that anything greater would have no hope at all. It is very sail indeed to see this studied neglect of Westland's beauty spots, and particularly so in regard to .Mahinapua stream which wi's one of the finest natural scenic- gems in the Dominion, and the lake itself, an ideal | iriiic- resort. Sjeeial help from tile Tourist Dej ai tinent in matters such as this is well overdue, and with the holiday season so close at hand, it is to ho hoped the small moiety required from the Department in this matter will ho readily Vorthcoming. Once the creek is reopened for boating, we hope i{. will not lie long before a launch service is established so that the excursions up and down the stream can ho done comfortably on the one tide. In that event the lake would become a very popular resort.
