At the Magistrate's Court this morning before the buxines* commenced this being the first appearance in the Court of Mr Meldrum, S.M.. since he had beegu invested with the C.-M.G. and D.S.O. by In’s Excellency the Governor-General. Mr Janies Park Crown Prosecutor), said he desired on behalf of the Hnr. to congratulate his Wirship (Mr W. Meldrum, S.AI.) on the well merited recognition by His Majesty the King, for liis distinguished services in the field. It was with great pleasure that they had heard that his services had been recognised, and they desired to heartily congratulate him on the distinction he had been honored with. Afr Meldrum in reply stated it was an unusual procedure in Court, but he wished to thank them very sincerely for their kind congratulations. Tt was a tiling apart from the Court, and since he had come here he had tried to make good as a Magistrate. It was very pleasing to him to receive their congratulation*, but he took it that they had approved of what he had done on the Bench while in Hokitika. The investiture was somewhat belated, one of the honors had l>een awarded oil .Tan. Ist. 101(1. but it had been mainly through hi* own fault that he had not been the recipient before.
