FARMERS’ UNION.
A meeting of the Koiterangi-lvokn-talii brunch of the Farmers’ Union was held on Monday sth. November. There were present some twenty members. Mr W. A. Jamie-on presiding. lis ehmm in isported that the result of the hoii'-e to house canvass for members, conducted with the aid of Mr Buxton, had proved very .satisfactory, 32 members being obtained. Up to date no members from Kokatahi had joined the brunch. The Secretary was instructed to gel in touch with them and ascertain whether any farmer would join up with the branch pending the formation of a Kokatahi branch. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.
A lengthy report was read from the Dominion Executive dealing with (a) tin' w : o:k done in connection with the shipping problem and position to date: (in wiili suggested reductions ill railway freights and in paitieular on dairy produce; (e) the possible formation of a Fann Mauds Union, staling their claims of hours and pay. The report was received. From A. and P. Association asking for snppoil in asking Railway Department for a loading bank at Sea A iew near abattoirs. - Received and it "as decided to support A. and P. Association. also to write the Railway Department on the matter, and further Hint Secretary "rite to the Progress League asking for their support. From Exhibition A. and P. Committee asking for support in enthusing interest and in getting suitable exhibits for Agricultural and Pastoral section in forthcoming Exhibition.- —Received and referred J’or necessary, action to a soecial sub-committee.
Resolved to appoint the Nation,-t Bank as the branch's hankers, the Scereiarv and Tseasurer lo sign cheques. Resolved that the Secretary "rite the Dominion Executive lor information as to what members to support at the forthcoming ballot to elect representatives to the Dairy Contiol Board. The Secretary was appointed a delegate to the District Executive. The Seefeary was directed to write to the Postmaster at Hokitika asking that this district he granted 3 mails a week : i.c.. Monday. Wednesday and Fridays, and that information be chained re rural delivery. The Chairman drew attention to the iinsntifactory state of roads and said that Kokatahi and Koiierangi the most productive district in the County, had no i (.presentative on the Council. It was decided that in future the t niuii first elect their own representative and support him for the Council and so obviate vote-splitting. It was resolved to draw the Council's attention to the following ro-d works requiring attention : - (a) Hollow in road at Pines near Mr W. Jamieson's. (I,) 'pb,. Hood water on Load near Whiloy’s and the inconvenience to car owners. (<■) Bad state of road to Mr M • Young’s. (di Deep hollow in road near Mr Godfrey's corner requiring a culvert. (c) The necessity for the road from Borough Reserve to Woolhouse's to he gravelled. (f! The necessity for the road through Died rich's station to be proceeded with. (gi To ask for something in the nature of subsidy to be granted to effect improvement to the load to Smiths mill. . . , , The necessity for having hlneknerzy proclaimed a noxious weed was stressed and also to draw the Government Tnspeetor's attention to spread of ragweed and the rabbit nuisance.
