[BY TELEGRAPH—I’ER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AIRS SI AIKS’ DEATH. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 1. Airs Sillies, who met a tragic death at Featherston Railway Station, was a well-known resident of Christchurch. She had lived in the city for 47 years. During the last few years she spent a good deal of her time in travelling, and had been twice io the Old Country. At the time of her death, she was to tour the North Island with Afr J. AY. Simes. During the influenza outbreak, Airs Simes did nursing duty in a- number of North Island towns. Airs Simes is survived by a family of four sons— Aiossrs AY. K. Simes. R. F. Simes and J. AY. Simes of Christchurch and Air T. E. Simes, of Temtika. AHNISTER OF RAILWAYS. TTArARU, November I. At the latter town he received three deputations on various local matters. At noon the Alinister was entertained at a dinner by the Temtika Borough Council. Before proceeding to Tinnnn, the Minister visited Fairlie. Deputations were received by the Alinister at both Temtika and Fa tlie. CHIEF TREASURY CLERK DEAD. AYELLINGTON, November 1. Tlie death of Air William Wilson, Chief Clerk and Inspector of the Treasury Department, has taken place, after a long illness. He joined tho public service in 180-1. He was 48 years of age*. BOY DROWNED. DUNEDIN. November 1. A little boy, Robert Johnston, four years old, was drowned in Kaikorai stream al Green Island, yesterday evening. GORE, Nov. 1. Tommy Bates, aged 11 years, lell off a groyne into the Malania River at (fine this afternoon. November 2. D. W. Abukeiizie, a “fice lalruiier” fireman on the Alarama was found last night lying in a pool ol blood in the firemen's quarters ot the ship, with his face badly cut about, supposedly with a but lie. Ike men were paid yesterday and most of them were ashore a good deal oi the time, so no one saw what happened, but it is believed that Al.-Kee.Kie was assault,-.1 in his bunk during the day and dragged to
the corner where he was found. The blood on the floor appeared to be several hours old. It is said that there has been a good deal of trouble between the Unionists and the free labour men.
