THE EXHIBITION.

SUCCESSFUL SALE OF SPACE. AA’itli regard to the Exhibition to open here on the loth. December, Air D. J. Evans, General Secretary to the Exhibiton Council, supplied the pleasing intimation last night that the space had gone oil' very well indeed. The total value of the space offered to tile public was about £.i,099, and ot this the sale to date is m the region ot £2,469. Four-fifths of tln> space has thus been disposed ot. the space will be occupied hv Exhibitors trout all part' ol the Dominion. From Auckland t.i Invercargill, firms have taken space, and there should be n line collection ol interesting Exhibits. Of the province* Cauteriiury ha* taken the largest share, and some of the largest exhibits will be sent from that quarter. But Auckland, Dunedin and Wellington. will be represented as well as Nelson and the West Coast. Arrangements are now being made to place some overtlow exhibits in the upstairs portion of the Town Hall where the radio-parlour is to be situated. The buildings are so well advanced that there is now nut any lost time, there being ample cover for inside work on stands thus relieving exhibitors of special expense on that account. The main entrance in Tam-red Street "is now taking definite shape, and will he in keeping with the general excellence of the Exhibition Immediately at the entrance will he the fernery for which Air Haile will he responsible. This should be a. pleasing first impression for visitors. The AVestland Court comes next, and Air Dalgliesh. the Chairman of the Agriciiturnl section, believes lie will be able to fill that portion entirely with West Coast exhibits of farm produce. That would be not, only a very good achievement, but also very fine advertisement for tile pastoral resources of the Coast. Visiting farmer' and pastoralist* are sure to lie greatly impressed as to tile potentialities ol the district by a survey of tile Westland Court. The visitor to the Exhibiton will then puss into the Greymoiith and Kcetton avenues, stretching the length, practically. of Camp Street. ATirious avenues branch oil', taking the public lo ill" rear of the Town Hall where a large court is being built. The Drill Hall is being enlarged, also, both at the rear and tile* side, and will net ommodut ■ special displays of exhibit*. Altogelhei the exhibition is being organised on lines which will delight visitor', and it will take, a considerable time to cover the ground and inspect- all there will be to see.

The Management Committee is working continuously at the general arrangements, which now that the opening day approaches, are beginning to crowd up. Special attention is being devoted to the entertainment section. There will be several visiting musical and other entertaining parties. '1 lie first party expo tod will be the Greymouth .Male Choir, which will he here in the first, week of the opening. The Hmmngn band is to pay ait early visit. This is one of the champion bands of the Dominion. For Christmas week there will lie a distinct novelty for the Coast in the appearance of a ladies g\ iiinast class from Christchurch. Ike partv will number twelve young ladies with a pianist, who will be the chaperone. This party will give quite a distinctive programme. Great, interest is -tire to wilt re iu the visit of Derry's Alilitary Band from Christchurch, expected here about -J übilee time (January Dili. Lo lolli). Jt j- understood also, that the Redforn (N.S.AA .) brass band which will be in New Zealand Ia to in January, would be available for a visit to Lite Exhibition. if dates could be fitted ill with the baud’s itinerary.

There will lie various gatherings and the customary racing and trotting fixtures over tiie festive season will be bold as usual. On Christmas Eve there will be a special night for the children, and it is expected that Father Christmas will appear in person lor ibis special occasion, when I here will be a real Christinas Tree and i>resents direct from the hand of the tain - giver of Yuletide gifts. Seeing the old year out and the new year in will be another special occasion, and lor that event there will be much music and dancing provided. Altogether il tvill he seen that the arrangements for the coming special occasion are well in hand, and there promises is he an exceptionally bright and merry time (or Hokitika.
