To he legally liable for the support of another mail’s illegitimate child, whose mother lie had married a lew months before her death, is the plight of a young Main conductor, as revealed in the Wellington Magistrate - Court on Monday, when the question of maintenance wa> raised. "Ilw child." explained Sub-Inspector Cummings, "is now in the care i f the State, and defendant is liable lor its support. Defendant is not the father. The girl married him when she was practically dying on her lect, and he was not then aware of ( th' child’s existence. We have not sufficient, evidence to determine the real lather. Mr J. J. Mclntosh, the enterprising proprietor of the Red Emil Hotel. Gibson Quay, is making large additions to the old established and ponulnr hostelry. There was a sudden death yesterday afternoon, in the person of .Miss Eva France, a young girl of 18 years, the second daughter ol Airs 1* ranee. South Spit. The young girl was about as usual up to Tuesday, when feeling; unwell she was confined to bed. It was not till yesterday morning that the case developed any outwardly visible serious consequences, when medical aid was summoned. Be lore Dr Baird could reach the patient she bad p-i'sed away. The late Mr Walsh was a married man residing with his wile and family at Wntangi, where lie was farming and stock raising, lie was It! years of age, and was a native of Gillespies, afterwards moving to Cooks river district, lie married a daughter of Mrs Militancy, a well-known family of South Westland, residing at Maintain. There are six young children. Ihe laic Mr Walsh leave-a widowed mother, six sisters and live brothers. His illness was ol very short duration, hut his case was known to he serious since Ins admission recently to the hospital, where everv care and attention was devoted to tlie patient. Great sympathy will he extended to the bereaved wife ami family, and to the relatives of i lie deceased ill the loss of one who was very highly esteemed by all who knew him.
