The police, who have tho work in hand have been further reinforced. Chief Detective Cuniming, of Auckland, and Detective Sergeant Quirk, of Palmerston North, are arriving to-day. The eo'uT'inod police lore--* have had a, .strenuous lime, a number of likely clues have been pursued, and in the majority of cases have been dropped as the outcome of searching inquiries, and in a word there is nothing fresh to report. Oates is still in the District Hospital and slowly recovering from his painful •injuries. One arm is still much swollen and bruised, but it is the arm that shielded his head, and undoubtedly saved his .life. A reward of two hundred and fifty pounds for information leading to the arrest ol the murderer is announced tonight. The Blive terrier which was injured bv tho murderer has died.
