An accident happened on the Knnieri road one evening earlier in the week with somewhat peculiar Jesuits. It appears that a. young man was cycling towards Kanieri when a young dog ran out at him. and coming in contact with a wheel, brought the rider down with a crash on to the side of his hue. The death took place a: Westport on 'Thursday' of Mr James MeGorm::n. a pioneer of the distiieß Deceased was a native of County (Jure, Ireland, where ho was horn 87 years ago. H" landed in | New Zealand in lFdf, and followed gold rushes in Otago, later drifting to the Coast, following the rushes at Hokitika. He married and settled down at Ross, where he resided for over 20 years. Coming to the Boiler district in 1887, lie worked on the railway construction works between Westport and Cape Foulwind, eventually going to Denniston, where lie worked, in the employ of the M'estport Coal Company, for IS years. Finally lie made his home in M'rslport, where he lived uiltil the Great Harvester called him home. Deceased was of a very genial character, upright and honourable, with a keen sense of humor and gifted as .1 story teller, especially incidents relating to the early digging days. He is survived by a widow and three daughters: .Mr- M. Ileeily, Westport; Mrs M\ McCormack, Granite; and Mrs J. C. Brown, Westport; and three son? Mr J. P. G’Gormau. Ilawera ; Mr F M.
