HOKITIKA EXHIBITION.

LIAXGIOUA TAKKS A LAY. Last night a meeting was held at the Rangiora Municipal Chambers ol representatives of the Borough and C ounty Councils. Farmers’ Union, North- ! ern A. and I’. Association High School. Council, produce merchants, and other business firms, to consider a proposal to have the town and district represented at the British and Colonial Exi hibition to be held in Hokitika. Ibo Deputy-Mayor. Mr C. I. Jennings, presided. Mr 11, Newell, secretary of the Rangiora branch of the Farmers' L nion. stated that the proposal to make a display at the Exhibition emanated trom the Farmers' t niou. and it had met with the warm approval of several produce merchants, business firms, and others interested in industrial matters. The support promised had warranted him securing an option on a bay 30ft x 7ft, and he felt sure the space would he taken up. The charge for space would lie os per square loot, and ho estimated the total cost of getting up the exhibit at about CIoCI. Mr A. At. Carpiuter. chairman of the Union, spoke of the benefits that would accrue from reciprocal trading between North Canterbury and Westland producers, and expressed his conviction that a good selection ol Exhibits representative of the products t f the district would have most beneficial results. After a short discussion it was decided to carry out the proposal, the space bespoken by Mr Newell to be secured, and named the Rangiora bay.
