FOOTBALL.
V ESTI-AX D SUB-UN lON
On Saturday tlie football l nion will present the local lovers of Rugby with a programme that will take beating for the small monetary benefit that is usual. At 1.30 the local junior reps, will defend Westland's honour against the Grev reps, the previous game ending 12—0. Saturday’s game should he worth going a long way to see.
On No 2 ground the Kiwi thirds will play a game with the Marist thirds. At 3 p.m. Inangnhua Reps, will take tho field in an endeavour to wrest the Dittmai! Shield from our local Union, who at present hold the much coveted trophy. Previous results should serve to firing to mind the fact that Saturday’s match should be a very interesting game as will l>e shown. Westland played Inangnhua at Greymouth two years ago. and were successful in winning the Shield by a very narrow margin. Hi 1922 Westland were not challenged by Tnnngnhua. Greymouth challenged and Westland were again successful and held the Shield for 1922. Greymouth set the ball rolling in 1923 by challenging Westland and the game was played under excellent conditions, and Westland once again successfully defended the Shield. Inangahua have challenged for the Shield, and tlie match will take place at 3 o’clock on this Saturday. Taking a line on the Westland v. Inangahua match played at Reefton on Sept. 9th. this yea when the game ended Westland 9, Inangahua 8, goes to show that the match on Saturday should prove decidedly interesting. The local union, having given its reps an outing to Westport this year has left the funds of the Union in a depleted state, and it behoves every sport to roll up and help the Union by giving liberally at the gate on Saturday.
The following will represent Kiwi Third Grades in their match with Blakeown on Saturday:—Gilloo'ly, King, Kelly, King, Groufsky, Houston, Hutchinson, Gavlor, R.nine. Stopforth, Taimii .Mason (2), Stickles, Nightingale.
