HOKITIKA BEAUTIFYING ASSOCIATION.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 25th. Tho monthly meeting was held at the Town Clerk’s Office at 7.35 o’clock. Present: Hon M. L. Michel (President), Mrs Bennett, Messrs Pilkington, Irvine. Preston. Evans, Niven. Apology was made for the absence of Mrs Pilkington. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Borough Council wrote in respect to the Forestry Report affecting the improvement to tlie ocean front. It was resolved that the President, Messrs Preston, Irvine, Pilkington and Niven meet ihe Reserves Committee on the ground at 4.30 on Thursday afternoon to discuss the matter. The Hon Secretary reported the construction of a stone drain on the football field of Cass Square, length lu3 yards, taking 22 loads of stone. The .Society had employed a man. horse, and drav carting gravel ami 10!) loads had been delivered on Cass Square; also KM) loads h.v tho Borough Council. AYith the spreading of the material, the Society's work to the pathway for the year would he finished. Other work was being attended to on Cass Square, which was now in improved order.

Maeamlrcw Square had received considerable attention, and at present there was a very tine show of bulbs. Manv blooms, however, 'were being stolen. Throb new seats had been placed on Cass Square, and the proceeds from Poppy Day were being spent hv employing ox-service men on the works.

Accounts to the amount of £2O 4s were submitted and passed for payment, leaving a credit balance of £43 16s Bd. it was decided to draw the Council’s attention to the work done on Cass Square, and ask for another 100 loads of gravel in complete the track repairs. It was resolved to ask for tools to ho supplied for workmen. Discussing grass cutting a proposal v.as brought forward to purchase a petrol motor mower at a cost of about £l2 : >. It-was resolved to enquire from the Custodian of the Christchurch gardens in regard to the machine, or other ma; bines considered suitable. The Chairman said their hinds were depleting and it was necessary to replenish same. He suggested a Paddy's (Market day on Cass Square on Saturday. November lOtli. 'flits was approved. and it wtts resolved to call a meeting of ladies for 4 iiursday -sin. October at 3 o’clock to tonsider ways and means. The Chairman remarked a good deal of work was in sight it the

funds were forthcoming, find he hoped to see Cass Square and Mneandrew Square in first class order over the Exhibition period. It was reported the Football Union had arranged for the painting of the fence on Cass Square. The meeting concluded at 8.15 p.tn.
