Poverty Bay. by beating Southland, created a surprise. Southland bad Inn two straight out wins, and Poverty Bay had bad one win and two draws. If Southland beat West . Const tomorrow, they will meet in the semifinal of Xo. ff competition with Poverty Bav. who have a bye to-day. Wellington and Eastern Southland arc lending in Xo. 1 competition, with four points each. They meet to-mor-row to decide the winner. Poverty Bay beat Southland as the result of superior all round combination. The Southland forwards wore as effective as usual, hut were not veil supported bv their half hacks. On the other hand. Poverty Bay half backs combined very well with their lorwards, and their short passes provided pretty play. " Southland were the first to attack, lmt without result, and towards the end of the first spell. Poverty Bay predominated, Miss Hni netting. The second spell was evenly contested. Miss Hill scored for Southland, after a great solo run, and in a scramble in the Poverty Bay goal mouth, Mrs Woods hit the hall into her own net. Both goal-keepers, Miss Morton (Southland) and Mis Forester (Poverty Bay) gave brilliant displays. . The game between Eastern (Southland) and Wairnrapa provided attractive plav. and although Eastern were the better side. Wairarapa put up a good fight, and were beaten by the narrow margin of. 2 goals to L Miss McKenna (Eastern) was the first to score, and Miss Thorn added the next coal Wairanrpa’s goal was secured by Miss John. Mis Porter (right wing) plaved a fine gave for Eastern, and Misses Thorn and McKenna were also conspicuous for clever play. Wairarapa’s best player was Miss Gage, and she was well supported by Mrs Buick and Miss Vincent. Miss Booth was playing splendidly until she received a painful knock on the knee.
