U’STRAI.IAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION. THE HAWK'S SUCCESS. SYDNEY’.. Sept. 17. The “Daily Telegraph” says The Hawk won without having to defend himself over tiie final furlong. '! he victory was as decisive as that registered by Gloaming in the corresponding race last year, but came as a greater surprise. Beaufort! was hard held at the top of the straight and looked as if lie would come away when Wood called on him, but lie showed no fight when challenged by The Ilav.k at the distance, and thence it was a matter of how much The Hawk would win by. The -‘Herald” says Beaufort! may not lie j airly tuned, up yet, hut excuse, should not be sought as lie was well beaten bv a rattling good horse.
