! The Committee met at the County Chambers at 11 a.m. Present:—Mr D. Jellie (President)), and Messrs G. S. Dnlgloish, 11. Mild, Neville, Pilkington, J. M. Dimmick, Jamieson, IV. Jeffries, J. Fleming, J. .T. Mclntosh and tile Secretary, i The President in opening the meeting tendered his thanks to the Association for the honour conferred. Apologies for non-attendance were received from A. Dimmick, .T. McKay, J. Minelian and J. F. Minehan. Tiie minutes of the meeting held on tho I.lth May last were read and confirmed.

Inward correspondence was read and received as follows:

From the Manager "New Zealand Farmer,” relative io news of interest and advertising show etc. it was resolved to defer the matter ol advertising and 1 lie Secretary was authorised to supply any matter of interest io the editor or local representative.

From Mr Dnlgloish, reporting receipt of hook “Flowers of the T'ield. tiie second prize for collection of grasses in tiie schools competition at recent show, won by W. Mitchell of Ross. The book had to lie. obtained from England, hence the delay. The account of same was authorised to lie paid and the Secretary instructed to forward same to the teacher of the school at Ross and write to the Mayor suggesting lie might present same to the winner on some suitable occasion From tlio Secretary of the Local Bodies Conference, to be held on 2fitb i list. Tiie President and Secretary were deputed to attend such conference. Outward correspondence was read and approved. Show Ground.—A copy of the lease was received from the ’Westland Racing Club providing for use of the course for show purposes, and in connection with the improvements ro be effected was read and considered. Mr" Wild moved that same be approved and that tlio President and .Mr Pilkington be authorised io sign same on behalf of the Association. The motion was .seconded and carried. Air Dalgloixh and the Secretary reported on tho position of the Guarantee Fund and arrangements made with the National Bank which was now available. Mr Dalgleish also reported on the work being done on the Racecourse. Of 30 chains of .stone drains. 7 chains were completed, and about S', chains opened up. Mr Rush, who bad taken the contract had been unable io carry on, and fresh arrangements were in the course of being made by day labour. A roplv was expected from Lincoln Bros. Mr Jamieson reported that with Mr Dalgleish he had inspected the work so far ill hand and same was very satisfactory. He moved that the action of Mr Dalgleish, and the remainder of the Sub-Committee be approved, and that the accounts incur-

red so far be passed for payment. Mr Fleming supported the motion which was carried. Ground Committee.—Tlio president pointed out the advisability of a permanent Ground Committee who could take in band the whole of the work. He moved that Messrs Dalgleish. Jamieson, Mclntosh, Fleming, Neville and .1. Smith be appointed with authority to pass accounts incurred within a limit of Clod. Mr Dalgleish to bo Chairman and to certify all accounts in h sped of the work upon which same mav be paid. Mr .TeiTries seconded the motion which was carried. Mr Dolgloish ronorled that be bad received vorv valuable assistaiice from Mr Slmwbridge in the matter of lixing levels and in other respects. The thanks and appreciation of tho Association was directed io be recorded, and to be conveyed to Afr Strawbridge In- letter. Date of Show.—The President suggested that in view ni the Exhibition to be held at the end of the year, the annual show should be held at the latter end of January. Air Jamieson moved that the date of the show lie noth January. Afr .Jell Vies seconded, pointing out that if held towards the end of the Exhibition part at least of suitable exhibits might be released from the Exhibition for the slow. The molion was agreed to.

Confercitce of West Coast Associations.—Tho desirability of such a conference was affirmed and the matter of arranging same was left in the hands of the President and Secretary, anti if same is held they wore deputed io attend.

Accident Insurance.--Air AA’ihl moved that a Policy of Insurance against accident for all employee? directlv employed by the Association he taken out nil a basis of 0300 annual wages. The Secretary and Air Pilkington to attend to same.—Carried unanimously. Veterinary Association.—The President explained what was being attempted by various Farmers' Unions in the matter of forming Veterinary Associations, as a result of which the [Government had indicated that ihoy thought the districts should begin by helping themselves ami later Government assistance might he forthcoming. The idea most favoured was the obtaining of a membership who would guarantee an annual subscription to meet the salary of a District Veterinary Surgeon, who should bo allowed also private practice. Alter discussion the matter was (referred indefinitely. Protection ol[ Hares.—lt was- report-

ed by the President that hares wore, proving very destructive in tho ArnImra district ami probably so in other localities. After discussion moved by Air Jamieson, seconded bv Air Mclntosh and carried that representations i he made for the removal of protection j for hares in the Westland County. ' Stock Loading Bank.—Mr Jamieson advocated the need for yarding, holding and loading facilities for stock at Seaview or some other convenient raili way station at or near Hokitika. In a general discussion it was pointed out that the only facilities for loading wore at Ar.tliurn. The matter had already been put before the railway officials who stated there was no space at Hokitika station, and that the Department would require reliable statistics and data before entertaining the pro-

posal. Afr Jeffries undertook to obtain same as soon as possible. On the motion of Afr Mclntosh, seconded liy Air Jamieson, it was decided that the Bailway Department lie written to requesting tLoin to provide stock loading and discharging facilities at or near to the Hokitika abattoirs. The Secretary to collect all possible data and submit same. Award Cups.—After lengthy discussion it was decided that the cup before the meeting for inspection he purchased as the Association Cup to he won by the exhibitor in cattle classes gaining tile most points at the show in the years 1923. 1924 and 192.“. Air Mclntosh moved, Air Jamieson seconded, and it was carried that the exhibitor gaining most points each year he allowed to hold the cup until the next annual show. That his name lie recorded on the cup as the “holder’’ with the points gained by him. That after the third year the final winner’s name, with the full numlier of points gained be recorded on the cup. The holder of the cup to hold same oil the condition that he is personally responsible for it until it is handed over again. This motion to apply also to the cup presented by AH J. Tennent in the Jersey classes. It was left with the Secretary to arrange for suitable

Date of Meetings.—The date of meetings with a view to suit the Ross members of the Committee was deferred pending the permanent railway timetable being made known. Harbour Board Rating.—After some discussion wherein it was unanimously agreed that Westland County should not have been included in the Rating Area of the Greymouth Harbour Board it was unanimously resolved on the motion of Mr Pilkington that a remit lie sent to the forthcoming conference of Local Bodies, viz:—That the strongest possible combined effort be made to have the Westlaml County excluded from the Greymouth Harbour Board Rating Area. A vote of thanks to the chair con'linled the meeting.
