The New Zealand Ladies’ Hockey Championship Tourney opened to-day at Dunedin under unfavourable ground and weather conditions. The Coast team met Otago. The ground was very heavy. The result was a win for Otago, who scored four goals, against two notched by Coast. The scorer of the Coast points was Aliss Stubbs. For Alonday, the Coast have drawn a. bye, their next game being on Tuesday. The local team will be slightly altered, as Aliss Taafe (Reefton) will replace Aliss Jamieson (Blackball).

(By Telegraph.—Special to Guardian). DUNEDIN, Sept. 17 The hockey match between Otago A and AA'est Coast was played under unfavourable weather conditions. During the first spell Coast played against the wind and on the whole lacked iho combination shown by Otago. The spell ended Otago 2, Coast nil. AA ith the wind behind them in the second spell Coast brightened and kept Otago busy. Aliss Stubbs shot two fine goals but Otago again attacked, shooting 2 more goals before the game ended; Otago 4, Coast 2. Considering Coast played a home team and were without any practice together the girls’ play was commendable, Aliss Furness deserving special mention.
