KOITERANGI NOTES.
(From a Correspondent). Tiie new and up-to-date lime crusher. which has been installed by the Kciterangi Lime Company, will l.e in operation in about- a week’s time, and with the new kiln recently built, the Company expects to be able to handle about 80 to 10D tons of lime monthly, which before the end of the month will be in keen demand. The warm rain thii last week has brought the grass along splendidly. Quite a number of herds are coming into profit, although after the severe winter are not in as good a condition as usual, Imt "ill soon recover, as everywhere the fields are looking green, especially those which have been renewed and dies ed with. lime. Quite a number of settlers have awakened to the idea of winter ploughing; and areas from 20 to 10 acres have been ploughed in quite a lot of holdings. Mr AY. A. J amieson. who recently returned from Canterbury brought back with him, half a. dozen Jersey heifers, bred by Messrs Drossen Bros., anil Matson ; to add to his already well-estab-lished herd; also four Berkshire sows, which lie is crossing with a Tamworth boar, which cross was recently recommended by Mr Corringe of the AA inter School.
Our school and teaching staff are being considerably taxed at the present time, close on 40 scholars being on the roll, which is too much for one teacher, line they speak well for the future of the district. The Hall Committee meets next Monday night to consider painting the hall and ploughing the grounds, to be in keeping with all the new residences recently erected. Air AAL Jones, the well-known settler has built a beautiful up-to-date bungalow, and quite a number of our settlers are. investing in cars which brings them in clo-e •touch with Hokitika.
