Airs Lynn lias kindly donated a gentleman’s prize for the Hospital Ball on Wednesday night.

The Committee of the Westland A. and P. Association meet on Friday next at 11 a.m. at the County Council Chambers.

The committee in charge of the decorations for the Hospital Ball will meet at the Drill Hall to-morrow even ing at- 7 p.m.

Prior to the commencement of the Hospital Ball on Wednesday night from 8 p.m. to 8.39 p.m. Bonetti’s orchestra will render a programme of reception music in the Drill Hall.

The Borough Council is inviting tenders for completing Rolleston Street, excavating and filling 18 chains of drain in Sale Street, and making concrete pipe moulds. Tenders close on Friday next at 4 p.m.

A meeting of those willing to cooperate .in organising a Westland Court for the Exhibition will he held at the County Chambers at 3 o’clock on "Wednesday afternoon.

The death occurred at Grey River Hospital on Saturday morning of .Miss Annie Paulsen. Deceased who was 41 years of age. was a daughter of Alt Christian Paulsen, of Tlioona, Victoria. She was on a visit to her sister, Airs A. Bnilin, of Kuthorgicn, and other relatives on the Coast, when she became suddenly ill and was removed to the hospital, where she underwent an operation. Unfortunately peritonitis supervened, resulting in her death.

The death took place at Christchurch on Friday evening of Arts Cocks, who for nlaity years was a resident of Grcymotith. Deceased was about 70 years of age. One of her sons, Walter, was killed by an explosion at the premises of Forsyth and -Masters (now Ashby, Bergli and Co.), .Mnckay Street, many years ago. The late Mrs C’oeks left Greyihonth to reside with her family at CbristCliurch a few years ago. She leaves three daughters, all married, two ot them being Mrs W. Jones, of Christchurch, and Airs G. The death of .Mr It. P. Grcvillc. Commissioner of Crown Lands at Auckland took place on Thursday last. When about to leave Auckland for a holiday he became ill with a serious internal nuinplaint and was removed to a private hospital a week ago for the purpose of an operation, which showed his case to In'- hopeless. The late Air Grevillo was horn in Invercargill in 18(52, and was educated at Scot’s School. Hokitika. He came to Wellington in 1878, and a tow months later created a surprise by securing top place in a national scholarship. At the age of 19 ho gained his certificate as authorised surveyor, and later (nullified as a solicitor, an unusual double distinction. Air Grevillo did a great deal of the survey of the Fortv-Alile Bush. He became Assistant-Surveyor, and afterwards was appointed Commissioner of Crown Lands lor North Auckland. Mr R. P. Greville was a son of the late Air Joseph H. Greville, one time of the Treasury Department. He leaves a widow and a family ol five sons and four daughters, all grown-up.
