HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture, has received the following cablegram, diifod September 1, front the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: MEAT. Fair trade this week. New Zealand lamb is a little slow, but prices are maintained. The mutton market is firm with a good demand. Chilled beef is firmer on short supplies. Quotations (all at per lb.) are as follows: New Zealand Mutton—Canterbury, 4b-sGlb Bld, 57-01 lb Bd, 65-7211) 7i}d; North Island, ordinary, 49-561 b Bd, 57-6-lib 7Jd, 05-7211) 71d; ewes 6jd. New Zealand, Lamb—Canterbury 29361 b Usd, 37-42 llid, 13-5011) 10?tb; second-class. 103 d; North Island, best IOJd, second-class lOd. New Zealand Beef —Fores 2:|d, hinds 4 Jd,
Chilled Beef-Fores 3Jd to 3Jd, hinds old to 7d. BUTTER. The market is firm and the demand is good. Official quotations are: New Zealand.—(Salted), finest 185 s, 188 s, up to 190 s per ccwt (Is 7-Rl to Is Bfd per lb). (Unsaltodj, 188 sto 190 s per cwt (Is Bfd per lb). Other qualities, salted 178 s to 184 s per cwt (Is 7d to Is 7Jd per lb). Argentine—Finest 168 s to 170 s per c.wt (Is 6d to Is 6.1 d per lb); exceptional 174 s pci’ cwt (Is 6Jd to ,1s 7fd per Lb); other qualities, salted 142 s to 174 s per cwt (Is 31 to Is Old per lb); unsalted, 160 s to 170 s per cwt (Is old to Is 61 di per lb). Irish—l72s .to 178 s per cwt (Is Old to Is 7d per lb). Danish—l9s to 192 s per cwt (Is 8)d to Is Bld per lb). CHEESE. Tlic market is very firm. Official quotations arc: English— Finest farmers, 126 s to 180 s per cwt (Is lid to Is 2d per lb). Canadian—Coloured 116 s to 118 s per cwt (Is Old to Is OJd per lb); white Tlßs per cwt (Is Old per lb). New Zealand —Coloured, 118 s to 120 s per cwt (Is OJd to Is Id per lb); white, 118 s to 120 s per cwfc (Is o:]d to Is Id per lb). Shipments of New Zealand produce arrived this week per s.s. Middlesex and Rimutaka. HEMP. 'Lie Manila market is steadier follow grades. “J” grade, Octobor-Dc-cember shipments, sold up to £3l 5s per ton; “G” grade now quoted at £35. New Zealand market continues (lull. Fair grade spot sold at £3l; Highpoints quoted at £32 buyers. WOOL. On the Bradford market a better tone is maintained. Cross-bred yarns and piece goods trade are more active. Present quotations for tops are: —- 64’s (merino) os Id; 50’s (super liallbrcd), 2s lid; 49’s prepared (coarse cross-bred) Is Id per lb).
