British and Intercolonial Exhibition at Hokitika.
THURSDAY, Sept. Oth. ACCOM MOD ATI OX COM MITTEE. The representatives of the drapery firms of the town met Mr AY. AA’ilson, • Chairman of the Accommodation Committee at the County Chambers at 3 o’clock for the purpose of discussing a scheme with regard to the bedding supplies for hostel accommodation proposed to he organised by the Exhibition Committee. There were present representatives of Airs .T. Lloyd, Messrs McKay and Son, S. J. Preston, AlcGruer and Cov., Al. ATcGavin, P. Stephens. Addisons, Paterson and Lloyd, Schroder and Coy., and A\. Stopforth. The Chairman explained the scheme suggested by tho Kaiapoi AA’oollen Coy. for the offer of blankets through a Retail Traders Committee to the Exhibition authorities, the Traders Committee to make necessary arrangements, and the Executive of the Exhibition to 1m? responsible for the cost incurred in connection with the supply and delivery of the blankets on the lines suggested by the Chairman of Directors of tlie Kaiapoi Coy. After discussion Afr Preston moved that tlie meeting sanction the proposal and agreed to the suggestion made in the letter. This was seconded by Air Eraser and carried. Tt was stated that the Exhibition Council was to take all financial responsibility in the matter. Messrs De La Mare, Schroder and others intimated that the drapers would be willing to forego any commission in tlie matter, so that the Ex-
hibition. Council would be responsible only for the actual cost to be incurred and expressed their (general ’willingness to help the Council wherever possible. On behalf of the Executive Council, Air Wilson thanked the drapers for tho good spirit displayed, and said lie would have much pleasure in conveying the kind offer to the Council in due course. The mooting then concluded. MIXING COAIMITTER. The Alining Committee in connection with the Exhibition met at the County Chambers at 7.10 p.m. Mr A. Aitken (Chairman) presided. An apology was received from Air Osmera of Ross who intimated his willingness to assist in every way possible, anc( staling bis intention to lie present at subsequent meetings of the Committee.
It was resolved to write to the Reefton, Westport and Greymouth Committees with regard to exhibits of coal, quartz, tiro day, and other mineral specimens of their district. In was intimated further that the Rimu Dredging Company intended to co-operato in an Interesting exhibit, which would probably include a working model of the dredge on Rimu Flat, and also submit samples of gold in the amalgam etc. for general information.
It was decided to endeavour to obtain samples of coal from tlic Koiter angi and Gentle Annie districts. In regard to the South Westland mineral resources, it was resolved to write to -Messrs John Ritchie and W. D. Nolan for samples of mica., copper, kerosene shale, and Maast and l’aringa coal. It was further suggested to obtain samples of chrome iron from the Red Mills, nicklc from the (Jorge River, marble from Caswell Sound, lithographic stone from Pawarika, Abbey Rocks. The Chairman stated that samples of quartz would he obtained from V~ Osmcrs from the Cedar Creek di triet, and if was also intended to e denvour to get mineral samples fro the Rangitoto area. Mention was made of the huff cc oured lime stone obtainable at Ko ternngi, and it was resolved to emits vour to secure samples of the stone i question. The Committee will he called t< gether later for the purpose of si looting any suitable exhibits of mode' and specimens procurable in the loci museum for display in the specii court for Westland.
