HOKITIKA EXHIBITION.

AVESTPORT’S PART. (Westport “News.”) A meeting called for the purpose of taking action in regard to the Hokitika Exhibition, was held in the Town Hali or. Friday evening. There were present : Messrs C. E. Beilby, ,T. Bradley, D. Standage, 11. T. Parry, E. H. Fox, A. Taylor, Canon Cottrsey. Mr Beilby was voted to the chair. Mr Bradley estimated that the cost of a suitable exhibit from the district would he £2OO to £3OO. It would be necessary to appoint a paid organiser. Mr Beilby suggested that a small executive be formed, with the Mayor as Chairman, and a secretary be appointed! to go into the question of finance and see what etui be done in the matter. Mr Bradley said the committee could approach people likely to exhibit, say the Westport Coal Company, the Dairy Company and so on. and then apply for space accordingly. 1 hey might also have a good display of photographs.. But all this meant money. There "as also the question of home work and school work. On tho motion of Air Fox. seconded by Air Bradley, it was resolved that an executive committee be set up to consider ways and means, and see whether it was possible for Westport to go into this exhibition, this committee to consist of Afessrs Bradley, Beilby. Fox-. Enright, Taylor. Standage. |!i- Bel by said they must shake up the people ill Westport and make them realise that this is AYestport’s opportunity. It would ho necessary to have a caretaker at the exhibition, one who could boost AVestport. Air Bradley said, when tliev bold an oxhihiton in AVestport. they had assistance from the Harbor Board, but could not get this row. The executive were authorised to approach the Borough and the County Councils, the coal companies, the Dairy Company and others likely to assist financially or with exhibits. Canon Cuiirsey undertook to see what , (,iild he done in regard to exhibits from the Technical School, and Air Bradley from the School of .Mines.
