[IST TELEGRAPH—I'ER. PRESS ASSOCIATION.] LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. PUBLIC WORKS BILL. WELLINGTON, Aug. 21. The Legislative Council sat at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. In Committee on the Public- Works Amendment Bill an amendment was moved respecting drains on railway land which has the effect of leaving I lie maintenance of water channels to the department and sewers to the local authority. The Bill was passed ami Hie Council rose at 3.5 p.m. THE HOUSE. LAND AND INCOME TAX BILL. The House met at 2.30 p.m. Tin- House was engaged during the whole of its sitting considering the Land and Income Tax .annual) Bill and the F.iamu Duties Bill. In connection -, ith the funnel" Mr Massey announced ■ hat the proposed new Debenture lax would be taken out of Hie Bill and .’..■alt with in the Finance Bill. Tin' !’dl was passed without amendment in principle. The Stamp Duties Bill reduced stakes on horse owners from ten p.er cent to live per cent in spite of strenuous opposition bv the Labour Party.
The Finance Bill was introduced by Governor’s message. The “Washing Up” Bill was introduced and read a first time. The House rose at 1.-15.
