LX ECUTIV E. COUNCIL. MONDAY, AUGUST 2th. The Council met at 7.10 p.in. Present:—Mr IV. .]. .Jeffries (Chairman of Council), Mr AY. J. Butler, President, Dr. TeieheTmann, Messrs R. Perliam, R. Wild, G. Davidson, A. Aitken, and D. ,1. Evans. Apologies were made for the absence of Hon. H. L. -Michel and Mr W. Wilson. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and outward correspondence read and approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. Ere in Minister of Internal Affairs intimating that further representations had been made to the Minister of Railways relative to railway freights on. exhibits.—Received with thanks.
From Department of Internal Affairs stating that cm behalf of the Government. which was co-operating in the Exhibition enterprise, an officer from Christchurch would shotitly inspect local hotel accommodation in order to estimate the rcsoutces in regard to possible accommodation.—Received ; The .Secretary stated that Mr L. d. Schmidt, the officer referred to, expected to be hero about the first week in September. From Same supplying particulars of bedsteads and other requirements in tespeet to hostel requirements and stating quantities could be supplied as required.—Received. It was resolved to make further enquiry in regard to bedding material, and to obtain samples of bedsteads; also to ask that offer be kept open pending further consideration.

Christchurch, forwarding particulars of press publicity regarding prospectus.—Received with thanks. From High Commissioner’s Office. London, acknowledging printed matter in regard to Exhibition, and stating same had been com limn ha led to the press, clippings from which were suitplied.- Received with thanks. From Representative, Government Railways, regarding advertising.—Received.' Mr Butler Mated a tariff rate was to he supplied. [I-was resolved to telegraph for same. The Secretary stated that when in Christchurch last week, lie had asked for designs lor a nosier. It was resolved the Advertising Committee deal with Hie matter -.is early as possible, so as to begin the railway advertising. *

Government Department Exhibits in the upstair quarters of the lowa Hall. On behalf of the Alining Committee, Air Aitken reported the Rimu Dredging Coy. would endeavour to provide a working mode! of the dredge opoiat.eg at South Hokitika, and a display if nuggets and samples of the gold win. —Received and approved. Dr Teiclielmann suggested an ulv.-r----tisement in Brett's Annual to be j in-t----od next month for world-wide distj-mu-tion, cost limited to ClO.—Received iiltd referred to the Advertising Committee for immediate action.
Air Davidson enquired in reference to lighting and power, and approved of the arrangements made to the T'.leeirie I.ighting Company. Arr AYild urged the assembling of a district exhibit and thought the matter should be taken in hand at once. R was resolved to ask the committees dealing with local products to undeitalce the matter, which could then be detailed to a special committee. _ Tt was decided to ask the Chairman of the stib-<ommittees to convene meetings as early as convenient to arrange general details and to report to the Council in regard to expenditure involved by the action proposed. Accounts were passed for payment. The meeting conehuled at 10.15 p.m.
