“JOURNAL OF AGRICULTURE.

In view of the special attention now being given to the question of wheat production in New Zealand, an article hv K. D. Foster in the current July issue of the "New Zealand Journal of Agriculture,” on the milling finalities of locally-grown wheats, has more than ordinary interest. The data presented are based on a number of tests ot dilfercut varieties made in a reduction mill at the Chemical laboratory of the Department of Agriculture. The series on the Relation of Birds to Agriculture in New Zealand—which promises to be very popular—is continued by J. O. Myers and E. H. Atkinson. A new departure is the publics! mi of the lead in,, dairv factory grades for 1222-2.'!, (he lists' including all butter factories with averages of 22 points and over, and cheese factories with 21 points upwards. The Dominion is headed in butler by the Maketava factory, Taranaki (2V07) and in cheese by the To Horn factory, Wellington (SUl.ol). The exportation of eggs, a trade which is to be tested on a commercial scale in the ensuing spring, is dealt with by F. C. Brown, who gives a number of practical points for the guidance of producers. R. Maters discussed the brown heart trouble in apples, suggesting control measures for orchard and cool store. A. R. Young contributes some iisetul hints for farmers on the Calving oi Dairy Cows. Notes by B. C. Aston on the samples of limestone received at the Department’s Chemical Laboratory during the past year indicate several further finds of soft limestone deposits, which are especially valuable ior local agricultural use. Among other articles are those dealing with dodder in New Zealand-grown clover (X. R. Fov) ; Manorial Trials with Wheat at Carterton (F. AY. Greenwood) : Dairy Herd Improvement (AY. M. Singleton) ; Early Spraying for Apple and Bear BlackSpot (N. .T. Adamson) ; and an Improved AVliite Clover /Cutter (F. E. AVard). The regular monthly features complete the issue, which is tlie first number of a new volume.
