R.5.A. COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the above, jointly with the ladies’ committee, was held at the County Chambers last evening, Mt Evans (President, presiding. The Secretary (.Mr Kerr) reported re the finance which was considered satisfactory. About £ 100 had been raised by the Soldiers’ Sale days. The Chairman commented favorably oil the good assistance rendered bv the younger people who laid been contributing regularly through the social evenings. A number of accounts were passed for payment, and it was remarked that by raising another T 10!) within the next month or so, the social hall as far as it had gone would he tree of debt. The ball was now a valuable asset worth not less than £BSO.
It was resolved to hold a soldiers’ reunion in the hall next Tuesday night, and invite the ladies' committee, the members of the .Municipal Band, and the members of the Minstrel troupe, all with their friends, and to lake advantage o the gathering to make a. presentation in Mrs MeWhirter, who hns been an active worker for the building fund, and who is to he married shortly. All soldiers and their lady friends with the others mentioned were invited to attend.
Arrangements were made for tho euchre tournament this evening, the prizes for the evening being an entree dish for i lie winning lady and a pair of slippers for the gent. It was decided to engage Mr Lawn to supply the music for (he <lau<e. and by request it was resolved to bold a, waltzing competition at 10.15. for which Air Lynch is providing the prize. There should be a large gathering for this evening.
It was decided unanimously in view of the help rendered he the Hospital Board and si aIT to returned men who were sick, to offer the free use of the hall and appointments for the annual hall in aid of the local hospital.
The Chairman mentioned that Mr A. Hnrrop's historic work entitled the “Romance of Westland,” was in the press, and upon publication the profit from the West Coast sale of the work would he devoted to tho Soldiers’ building fund.
It was reported that the benefit performance bv the Minstrel troupe would take place about the first- week in September. It was resolved to make the preliminary arrangements accordingly.
