HOKITIKA BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

TUESDAY, JULY 24th. The monthly meeting was held at ihe Town Clerk’s Office at 7.20 o’clock. Present :—Air D. J. Evans (vi,'e-president) i'i the chair, Airs Bennett, Alessrs S. .1. Preston and J. Niven. Apologies were made for the President (Hon Michel), absent in .'Wellington, and several members absent through illness. The Hon Secretary reported the caretaker liad been absent on his annual leave, but would resume duty the next day. During the month attention had been devoted to Ala,.'undrew.. Square and Cass Square, and the work would be continued. On the lib. inst. a conference with the Borough representatives and the sports’ bodies was held on Cass Square and some works were arranged for. It was resolved to ask the Borough Council to supply the balance of the o ravel authorised, and to arrange for Hie supply of stone fur the ground drainage. ... . . The Secretary reported a credit balance of £lO3 7s lid. Accounts to the amount of £1 Is 3d were passed for payment. It was stated that members annual subscriptions wore now due and payable. A letter was received from the Borough Council stating a reply regarding beach improvements would he sent as soon as the Forestry report on planting was received. Iho Chairman poTnted out the unused portion of Brittan Street would now he lost ns a children’s play-ground, and it might be •n well to turn attention to the bcarli for a playground. Air Preston com inred. and said a. marine parade could he laid off and the place made very attractive It was resolved to await the report of the Forestry Department on the planting proposal. Some general matters were dealt w iU and the meeting concluded at b.lo o’clock.
